"If I had to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person I love. Because the first person that I love is God, who created me, and I have my faith and principles, and this is what makes me who I am. If that person loves me, he should love my God too."
This was Shamcey’s answer to the question raised by American actress Vivica A. Fox during the final question and answer of the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant 2011.
The question was “Would you change your religious beliefs to marry the person you love? Why or why not?"
Critics said that Shamcey lost the crown because of her answer considering that the pageant’s theme centers on unity and brotherhood despite cultural, political and religious differences.
A Conservative Stand?
Shamcey, owing to her family upbringing brought the religious belief and made her religion to be the center of her life. She strongly loved God first among others.
The Bible commends this as said in Proverbs 31:20, “Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord she shall be praised.” And this is what makes Shamcey Supsup an admirable character.
Standing Tall Against All Odds
Unlike her contenders, Shamcey answered in the English language without a second thought. Undaunted by the critics, she made her answer sharp and keen, renouncing compromise in marriage. Her answer clearly emphasizes that in every relationship, God must be the central theme that revolves around every man and woman in love. The world needs men and women who have devotion similar to her.
The Triangle of Love
In every marriage, God must be the top of the triangle. Notice that when man and woman moved closer to God, they will be closer to each other. However, if they will move away from Him, they will also be drifting away from each other. Thus the key to an intimate relationship is the close relationship with God. One cannot find a perfect partner, but if God is the center his life, then everything will be fine because it is He who supplies the discrepancies.
Not only in Pageant but also in MLM
Shamcey’s answer boldly present the central idea not only in pageant but also in business especially in Multilevel Marketing. Today this has been associated with “pyramid scam” and other negative connotations. We cannot blame the people because it is also prevalent that the MLM world nowadays has been marred with various malpractices. Lots of compromise and hypes were used by people who try to ‘recruit’ people into their MLM just for personal advantage.
Conclusion
Shamcey’s answer made me ponder and think of that in this world, there must be no room for compromise and hypes. This must be the ideal thing in every MLM. Every network marketer must ponder on these things:
1. Trust is the central theme in this business. Trust in God, in yourself, uplines, downlines, crosslines and even fellow network marketers in other companies.
2. Make no room for compromise. Tell the truth and the truth shall set you free.
3. Use the right tools to generate leads.
4. Stop chasing after prospects. Help and reach out for people. Solve their problems.
5. Have a goal greater than winning.
